Our Favorite Spring Cleaning & Repurposing Tips 9
Mar 2019

When most folks think of spring cleaning, their minds immediately go to vacuums, Lemon Pledge, trash bags, and a good ol’ scrub brush.

Now, I wouldn’t dare take any of these sacred things away from you, but there’s a less traditional aspect of spring cleaning that we simply can’t get enough of over here — repurposing!

Today, I’m sharing some quick cleaning, repairing & repurposing tips that we’ve perfected ourselves. Here’s to a spring refresh that’s easier, happier, and even more creative.

Spring Cleaning Your Curtains & Cushions

Curtains

Curtains don’t need too much (or any) elbow grease — you can take them straight to a dry cleaner! Just make sure to call the cleaners first. Not all locations will accept them.

Note: Curtains must be cleaned before we can work on them!

Outdoor Cushions

If you have outdoor cushions in one of our preferred performance fabrics, cleaning them is pretty darn simple…

It’s best to get all dirt and pollen off first with a light brush or vacuum. Then, you can make up a solution of bleach (a tiny, tiny bit!) or some soapy water and give it a nice scrub.

Don’t Just Spring Clean… Refresh & Repurpose!

Okay, this is the BIG one. We are repurposing a lot of things right now and we’re constantly amazed by how limitless the possibilities are. Here are some of our favorite examples…

Roman Shades & Curtains

We recently transformed an old roman shade into some perky pillows! We even once made a curtain panel into a roman shade. These things can be done, y’all!

Pillow Refresh

Just the other day, we had someone come in with older needle point pillows. We changed out the cord and fabric to a more updated neutral tone for her daughter. Simple as that, it looks brand new!

Fur Coats

I know. Can you believe this one? Clients bring in old fur coats and we transform them into pillows and throws! Gotta love it. One client even asked us to keep the pockets — and those pockets now house the remotes to his TV… ingenious!

Slipcovers

You can always update some older pieces of furniture with a slipcover, which we talk more about here.

Repairing Curtains (Even Silk Ones!)

Curtains

We see plenty of curtains that need a little update — and it’s almost always possible to make simple adjustments that will save them from distress or change their aesthetic.

For example, we’ve removed some very bright trim on several panels lately, but we can also add new trim as well. Whatever your curtains need.

Silk

We always get a lot of silk curtains coming in for repair. They’re usually suffering from sun rot and just need to be cut down in the inner edge.

As long as the curtains are wider than 1 width per panel, we can take some of the width out and they won’t look too skimpy. Consider your silk curtains saved!

That should be plenty to keep you moving over the next few weeks!

If you’ve got an interesting item on your hands and aren’t sure how to update or repurpose it, give us a call. We love a challenge, and we’ve definitely got some style tricks up our sleeve. 😉

Happy spring y’all!
